Since the removal of a well ingrown implant is a big burden for the patient, an attempt should be made to keep the implants in situ. Several damage modes will be presented and suggestions made how to prevent further damage and consecutive failure. Issues addressed include taper corrosion, ceramic fracture, spark discharge from electrosurgical tools, notching, mismatch, and offset.
