Side by side—AOTrauma and AORecon team up in Lithuania
As both involve trauma and arthroplasty, the co-led event provided an interdisciplinary approach to the subject matter. Ten experienced surgeons from both specialties joined forces to lead this high-profile seminar.
AOTrauma/AORecon Seminar—Fixation and Arthroplasty following Trauma, Periprosthetic Fractures, and Infection Around the Hip and Knee
Norbert P Haas (DE), Past President of the AO Foundation (2010-2012), and also the main initiator of AORecon in 2013, chaired the combined sessions together with Steve Velkes (IL), a long-term AOTrauma faculty member, and Narūnas Porvaneckas (LT), a renowned expert surgeon in Lithuania.
The seminar was split into four sessions, which focused on different sub-areas:
- Arthroplasty After Fractures Around the Hip
- Arthroplasty After Fractures Around the Knee
- Periprosthetic Fractures
- Periprosthetic Infection
All four sessions included case discussions, which drew the interested audience members into lively debates. At the end of the event, both the faculty members and seminar participants agreed that this format was effective and worthwhile to establish further.
